Communing with Robots

Image“Ye men, ye shall live as Gods.” Hominids developed a symbiotic relationship with technology a half million years ago – our Neanderthal cousins used cutting stones shaped to the contours of their hands. But the advent of emotional robots portends a symbiosis that could utterly transform our species.  In a few more years, large numbers of humans will commune intellectually, emotionally and – don’t laugh – even physically with something that functions like a separate species and one that draws its personal traits from a source that will become increasingly complex and that even may acquire attributes of consciousness over time – the Cloud. We even have the potential to play God, using apps to shape these entities – dare I say, entities – to conform our personal whims.
